Welcome to Kodachi Special Needs Judo Kwai

Kodachi Special Needs Judo Kwai was started 25 years ago in response to Bristol Council who wished for more sports to be made available for people with disabilities.

Judo was  recreational  in the Club to begin with but 12 years ago there was the chance for club members to take part in Competitions  in Wales, Germany and Holland.

There is a well organised Special Needs Judo movement on the Continent and latterly in Great Britain. Various Club members have travelled with Head Coach and Great Britain Special Needs Coach Ken Thorne to Italy, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden and Denmark providing an amazing chance to experience these other countries as well. There were more Competitions in Wales and many trips to Scotland.

For those who do not wish to compete, Judo continues to be a recreational sport with opportunities to take gradings so that your belt colour reflects the level of skills you have learnt. Whilst it is a very disciplined sport, our aim is for a relaxed evening during which members of different abilities can have fun in a safe environment to help build skills and self confidence.

Kodachi Special Needs Judo Kwai meets every Thursday at the Southville Centre, Beauley Rd.from 6pm til 8pm. The Head Coach is helped by Club Coach Richard Bennett and two assistant Coaches which provides a good ratio of coaches to players.
